There is an old saying about the good folks
who were busy arraigning the deckchairs on the Titanic!
The story did not end well!
The Congressional Committee tasked with cutting the deficit
was a bit like the deck crew of the Titanic.
Cutting 1.2 trillion from a budget over ten years
which is expected to raise the debt to 21 trillion
in the near future is nothing short of a bad joke to begin with!
The national tragedy is that a hand picked group of
Congressmen, Senators, Democrats, and Republicans
could not find a paltry 1.2 trillion dollars to cut.
I realize that 1.2 trillion is not actually a paltry amount,
but in comparison to 21 trillion of projected debt,
and 14 trillion of current debt, it's just not that much money.
And the frightening truth is that our government borrows
over .36 cents of every $1.00 that it spends.
Think about it.
If you lived on $3,000 per month--
but put $1,080 of it on your VISA Card--
exactly how long would you be in your house,
and driving your car?
It is just that simple.
And that horrible.
If we continue to borrow to live
the day is coming when .50 of every $1.00
will be borrowed money.
And the biggest bill in the National Budget
will be the interest on the debt!
So what do we do?
The Bible tells us to pray for those in authority over us,
that it might go well with us.
Pray for your President, Congress, and Senate
to wake up and realize the urgency of working together
to solve this problem.
Pray for God's mercy to fall on America.
Pray that God would deliver us from our addiction
to the debt that is weakening and crippling us.
Pray for a return to Biblical principles of
working, saving, sharing, and living.
Pray that God would grant our leaders
a spirit of courage and wisdom to know
the right thing to do and to do it.
It is time for bickering and posturing to end.
It is time to fix the problems before they break us!
Have a prayerful day,
Paul
